Adult Training The Boy Scouts of America takes great pride in the quality of our adult leadership. Being a leader in the BSA is a privilege, not a right. The quality of the program and the safety of our youth members call for high-quality adult leaders. Assistant Scoutmaster: The Troop needs Assistant Scoutmasters in order to achieve all of the goals of the Troop. The Assistant Scoutmasters attend and help out with the running of weekly meetings, provide support to the patrols, help out with teaching skills to the Scouts, help transport scouts on trips and provide adult leader coverage at events. Every activity requires a minimum of 4 adults to attend. Assistant Scoutmasters must be Youth Protection Trained and in order to be eligible to accompany scouts on overnight events must be fully trained by March 31 (within one year after the date they joined). Our Troop has a busy schedule, and it is important to have enough adults available so that no one person is overly burdened with Troop event operations. There is a $10 registration fee to become an Assistant Scoutmaster. Research has shown that Scouts whose parents are registered leaders are more likely to stick with Scouting. Any adult Boy Scout Leader in a youth contact position must have at least the following: (Click here for more info.)
