Troop Policies Good Behavior: First and foremost we expect good behavior. Scouting is a safe haven for our boys to come and be among equals. We do not tolerate bullying, name calling, fighting, fowl language and any action that risks the health and safety of others. We have a disciplinary policy that is a "3 strikes and you are out" system. Each "strike" comes with a probation period, written apologies and a letter to the Scoutmaster explaining the lesson learned during this action. The Scout is allowed to attend only the regular meetings while on probation, and not allowed to participate in Troop events. At the end of the probation period, a review is performed between the Scout and Scoutmaster, if needed, the Troop Committee will have the final say in the outcome. Dues: The scout is required to bring $1.00 dues to every meeting except the Patrol Leader Council meeting (PLC). If the Scout misses a meeting, he is still required to pay the dues. If a Scout is behind in dues, he will not be allowed to attend an event until he is paid up. Scouts may not pre-pay their dues. Paying dues on a weekly basis helps a scout learn responsibility. Uniform: The purpose of the uniform is to build team spirit and show pride in the organization and the position of leadership or levels of advancement a scout has earned. The official "Class A" beige scout shirt with red epaulets is worn for regular Advancement and Business meetings. The Troop hat, neckerchief, scout green socks, and scout green shorts or pants are worn with the Class A shirt for all ceremonies (Arrow of Light, Eagle, etc.), courts of honor, presentations, boards of review (even if it is at a regular meeting), parades (dress parade, memorial day parade), and at Camp Yawgoog during times when class A uniforms are required. The Activity Meeting requires the "Class B" uniform, which is the Troop t-shirt or a Camp Yawgoog t-shirt. Boy Scouts of America discourages parings, of the scout uniform with military-style clothing such as camouflage pants. When it comes to the uniform, neatness counts! Event Sign up: Sign up sheets for future events are available at each meeting in a red three-ring binder, what we call "THE RED BOOK". All of the events have, a separate page listing the details of the trip. Parents are welcome to review the Red Book with their scout. Generally the Scout is required to sign up at least two meetings before the event date and scouts attending an event must attend at least one of the two meetings leading up to the event. It is the parents' responsibility to keep aware of upcoming events and communicate with their Scout about which ones he is interested in attending. Certain trips may require the Scout and leaders to sign up MONTHS in advance. |
