A History of Camp Richard

  • 1931 original ˝ acre donated by Mr. Richard.

  • 195o Mr. James J. Murtagh loaned $1500.00 to Troop 1 Richmond to purchase the surrounding 11 acres aka “The Mosur Farm”. The Scouts at that time collected papers and other recyclables then exchanged them for money to repay Mr. Murtauch.

  • Sometime between 1931 and 1951 the original cabin burned down.

  • 1955 the cow fence that separated the 2 properties was removed to make 1 large property.

  • Between 1931 and 1955 Pioneer Rd was the only way to get to Camp Richard, Scout families would park on Pietila Rd and hike into Camp Richard.

  • 1955 Mr. Flynn cleared the road from Mr. Webster’s home on Lauri Drive into Camp Richard.

  • 1994 the Troop 1 Richmond & Ben Carpenter feud started about a right-of-way to the water front started.

  • 1999 Mrs. Hanslin told Mr. Webster that Mr. Carpenter cutting brush on Troop 1 Richmond’s property. Mr. Webster called Mr. Dolan who called Mr. Haney who witnessed the brush cuttings.

  • 2000 Camp Richard was surveyed and the chain link fence adjacent to Webster lodge and Pioneer Road was installed.

  • 2003 Mr. Dolan and Mr. Haney built the front porch on Webster Lodge.

  • Mr. John Dolan active in Troop 1 Richmond 1952 to present. Assistant Scout Master, Scout Master, committee chairman, treasurer, Camp Master and committee member. DOB 1/23/1923.

  • Mr. Webster active all his life in Troop 1 Richmond. He was a scout before WWII, committee member and Camp Master.

  • Mr. Mike Haney active in Troop 1 Richmond 1999-2009.
